Artist Statement

At the heart of my work is love — most often the deep, wordless kind we share with our dogs, our families, and the moments that shape our lives.

Learn To Love The Questions Themselves and Live Your Way Into The Answers

About

Step Into Life Studio, originally Zelda Moku Creative was born from the various loves we experience in our lifetime. After stepping away from art for years, I found myself returning to two unfinished portraits of my soul dog Maggi. It wasn't until  Zelda and Moku — full of life, light, and energy came into my life — that I was pulled me back to painting again. I felt compelled to capture them in ways I wished I had done for Maggi. That desire brought me back to the canvas, and ultimately, back to myself as an artist.

My practice now spans both traditional and unconventional surfaces — from large-scale canvas portraits to hand-painted hats. I started painting dogs on hats because hats, like memories, are deeply personal. They’re collected, worn, and treasured. I worked in a hat shop as a teen, and I fell in love with the way a single item could carry identity and sentiment. A custom dog portrait on a hat becomes more than clothing — it becomes a keepsake.

While dogs were the catalyst, my work continues to evolve. I take on all kinds of meaningful commissions: family portraits, landscapes tied to memory, moments that deserve to be held onto. Across all of it, there is usually one constant — love. That’s what drives me: translating your stories into visual form and helping you hold onto the feelings that matter most.

I’ve never been one to stick to a single medium or concept. Art, to me, is about movement, emotion, and connection — about learning to love the questions themselves and living your way into the answers.

My Approach to Commissioned Work

"I am committed to customer satisfaction, ensuring that each artwork not only meets but exceeds your expectations."

Commissioned work is something I deeply cherish. Every piece I create in collaboration with a client is more than just a project — it's a shared journey to capture a memory and turn it into something tangible, lasting, and full of feeling.

I believe in taking the time to listen — to your questions, your stories, and your vision. Whether we’re working on a large-scale canvas or a custom portrait on a hat or bag, I want to understand what makes the memory meaningful to you. That’s where the magic happens. If you don't have a photo you like, I also have worked with clients to take a photo of their dog for them.

To me, any memory — any photo, any moment — can be transformed into a living, emotional piece of art. Through brush strokes and color, I work to bring you back to that feeling, to make something that isn’t just beautiful, but priceless.

If you're interested in a custom piece — large or small, on canvas or a product like a hat or bag — I’d love to work with you. Let’s create something meaningful together.
